Renee Kincaid knew her family thought she was taking things too fast. She didn’t care. When you got to be their age, she figured, you couldn’t afford not to move quickly.

In fact, she had hoped to move things along a little more quickly.

Unfortunately, that thief that kept robbing people at the community center had decided Colin looked like a good mark at the worst possible moment.

Phenelope not only thought her mother was moving too fast with Colin, but with her mother over at the Angelou’s or out on a date nearly every morning and night, the work of the gardening was falling squarely on her shoulders. It was supposed to be something they worked on together; that was why they had chosen the farmhouse.

Brianna, meanwhile, was thrilled with how things were working out. Although initially, she had been bothered that her grandmother didn’t have as much time with her as before, now she was enjoying both her and her mother being so busy.

With the two of them occupied, once Winter and Frankie were in bed, Brianna finally got to spend time with her stepfather. Ever since Bernard and her mother had decided to patch things up, they had been disgustingly ooey gooey with each other. She had missed joking and laughing with him.
